L.G.R sunglasses chains are chic and practical beaded jewelry, entirely handmade by Maasai women in Maai Mahiu, Kenya.
This project is made possible by Ubuntu Foundation, a social enterprise that helps empowering marginalized mothers who have children with special needs. Ubuntu Foundation believes the deepest and most permanent way to empower their community is through sustainable enterprises producing high-quality products and experiences. They offer their “Maker Mums” meaningful jobs with above-market wages and benefits, while generating revenue that supports the special needs center.
Luca Gnecchi Ruscone got in touch with Ubuntu Foundation during a business trip in Kenya last November, where he met the “Maker Mums“, prototyped this beaded sunglasses chains, and learned the hard work these mums put in every piece – each beaded chain is entirely made by hand on a beading board, and it takes roughly one hour and a half to make one.
These sunglasses chains ensure you’ll never loose your favorite L.G.R shades.
